Two-Storey Extension, Government Road

Government Road, Raglan — Completed December 2025

The project

Kate and Sam have a place at Government Road they’ve been in for years. With the kids growing up and the existing house starting to feel tight, they came to us about adding more space — and making more of the views off the back of the section, which the original layout never really used.

A two-storey extension was the answer. Going up rather than out gave them a second level with proper sight-lines to the harbour and hills, and kept the section itself intact. That meant strengthening the existing structure to carry the new floor, threading services through the old house to feed the new one, and matching cladding so the addition reads as part of the original — not bolted on top.

Alongside the new wing, we worked through the existing house too — reworking layouts and updating finishes so the finished home holds together as one.

We’re in the final stretch, finishing up in the next few weeks.
